Tackling issues and obligations like a pro
It's sometimes challenging for gamers new to Limelight to get their heads around its issues and obligations mechanics. The main rule to remember is easy: set scenes that revolve around the characters' issues.
The players should do this to ensure the flow of the game is to dramatically escalate issues. Then, when the obligations on an issue stack up, the rest of the band will challenge individual characters to deal with it. After that occurs, players set further scenes to clear the issues' obligations via the change take care of business, and then resolve the issues. This process will grant character improvement.
To help ensure this process is smooth from the start of the game, take time with character creation. Focus on crafting issues: what they are and how they're worded. They should a) be things that are interesting to each character's player so they naturally want to set scenes focusing on them, and b) be worded in such a way so it conjures up images of how to set a scene (please see rulebook pages 21-22 for how issues should be crafted, with examples).
Then we play to find out what happens with these issues!
